Thinning hair may be in the weights

If you are 20 to 30 years of age, and notice that you may be having your hair thin there may be a really valid reason why. And I mean this if you are a man or a woman, it’s not your imagination if you lift weights. You are likely going bald.

Well at least that what one recent article states. Perhaps the people who would know best about this are the people at Rogers Medical Group, which specializes in hair transplants. In their opinion

“We have seen an increase in men in their 20s and 30s who regularly circuit train. There’s no doubt it is often a factor in hair loss.”

Perhaps the only news more troubling in this report is the fact that heavy-set men who eat high-fat diets and weightlift are the most likely to lose their hair.

The culprit of this is the fact that lifting increases the testosterone levels in the body. As the levels of testosterone fluctuate it breaks down into other chemicals in the body that are responsible for the hair at it’s root. So it is quite possible that the extra sexy body you are striving for has the possibly detracting side-effect that some may not find sexy.

So the dilema is out there. It affects women and men. In shape or out you could be doing in that quaf of hair. But before you cancel your membership to the local gym and schedule a scalp massage remember this is just one study.

Without question, in a few months I expect a counter-study affirming the benefits, if not rejuvenating qualities, of weight lifting on the hair. It’s the nature of many studies these days. One negative report leads to a positive and vice-versa.

So what is the ultimate answer? My thought is that you continue to train in a healthy manner, with a good diet. If you have a family history of baldness be aware but don’t freak out. If anything is true I can tell you as a 40 year old that you will lose some hair as you age, no matter how much you lift or when you start. And I for one am willing to enjoy a better health and body for a few follices of hair. Of course I have also been told I’m quite sexy bald, se la vie.
